The cargo of warmth, delivered by the cage of the Golgi.
In every living cell, a microscopic cage of Sec13/31 proteins folds around precious cargo, ferries it from endoplasmic reticulum to Golgi, and disassembles. This is anterograde transport — the directed motion of what matters most.
COP II is its tribute, scaled to the hand. A vesicle for the world above the cell, where warmth is the cargo, the cup is the cage, and the Golgi is the table at which you sit.
What lives in glass and porcelain in the laboratory, lives in heritage materials here. The science is not aesthetic. The science is architecture.
At the heart of every COP II vesicle: a cuboctahedral lattice of Sec13 and Sec31 proteins, self-assembled around cargo. Twelve vertices. Twenty-four edges. Eight triangular faces, six square. The geometry of directed delivery.
